I know what you mean.I usually get mad when a site changes it's design,but not in this case.This new layout is pretty much the same as the old one, except the older features are re-organised and made easier for the people who submit content and for the general users, like me, who just roam around this site.
Unlike the YouTube layout which is a total mess, this one is pretty well organised and looks cool, in my opinion :)

i think what i found the most frustrating about the youtube layout was that your channel was forced to be very bland looking and couldn't do your own layout of things
